Many a times while updating or restoring an ios on iPhone ,
we come across the following error :
People have tried a number of ways to solve this problem,
solutions sometimes works while other times they do not. A major issue which
may trigger this error is that the iPhone you are trying to restore is a
jailbroken one. Jailbroken iPhones have tendency to show errors during restore.
Also if you have a jailbroken iPhone, do not try to update it from iTunes or
from iPhone itself because it may lead to bricking of the phone.
Here I will explain this error with context to iPhone 4S:
1.
First step is to update iTunes to the latest
version available.
Now if you see the following page :
Then your configuration is fine. But if a
cydia page comes, then we have a solution to the problem.
3.
Migrate to the following folder in your system:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc (here C drive has the Operating system)
4.
Now copy the file “hosts” to the desktop and
open it in notepad.
Remove the highlighted line from the file.
Save it and paste it to this directory:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. It will
give an “overwrite warning”. You should be an administrator on the system to
overwrite the file.
5.
Restart the PC and the error should be gone by
now J
In case you do not have 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
in the “hosts” file, then there may be two reasons as to why you are getting
“3194” error:
a.
You are using a proxy server which is not
allowing iTunes to connect to apple servers. So you must allow iTunes through
proxy firewall. More details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/20226923#20226923
b.
Another reason might be that the IOS that you
are trying to restore to or update is an old IOS which apple has currently
stopped signing. So try the latest ios, it should work J
